From the beginning, we knew we weren't simply building a house, we were building our forever home. Liz Walton Home was involved in every detail, from perfecting the layout with our architect to selecting every brick, shingle, and finish. What made this project so successful was trust. Some of our favorite spaces came from ideas we never would have imagined ourselves. Liz Walton Home didn't just design a beautiful house, they created a home that truly feels like ours.

The Project

Set on the five-plus acres once known as Twin Hills Farm, this home began as a promise to the future. The original 1840 farmstead, with its barn and milk house lovingly preserved, now shares the land with the new 8,000-square-foot home the family built in 2022, along with the goats, chickens, and dogs that make the property feel wonderfully alive.

When they first invited us in, they were a family of five with a tender, clear-eyed request: build us our forever home, and make sure it endures. In the years since, they have welcomed two more babies, and the house has grown right alongside them. It is a home made to hold a family for generations, and all the ordinary, extraordinary years in between.

Our Approach

Because this was a home meant to last, we began where endurance begins: the layout. Working hand in hand with the architect, we shaped every room to feel generous without ever feeling cavernous, so that a home of this scale could still wrap around you like something small and warm. That closeness lives in the details: the trim, the paint, the wallpaper, the reclaimed brick underfoot in the mudroom still bearing the markings of where each piece came from, and the corners we carved out for the children's art and their own dedicated places to play. The family's trust made the boldest choices possible. In the primary bath, an awkward run of windows became an invitation, and their open-mindedness let us float the vanities back to back to open up a generous wet room, water closet, and a make-up vanity all her own. Nothing here is precious. It is a home you can truly live in, the kind you might mistake for a gracious country inn at the end of its long drive, and the kind where two people still meet on the front porch each morning for the first sips of coffee, before the day, and the whole warm house, wakes up around them.
